Over a period of 30 years Guy has been developing and leading High Performance Teams. Uniquely, he has worked in one of the elite armies of the world as well as one of the world’s most celebrated international sports teams.
As an officer in the British Army for 20 years, he led soldiers on operations at the age of 22. In this environment, where there is no room for mistakes, trust and absolute belief in your abilities is essential. His operational service in the army took him to Northern Ireland, 1st Gulf War, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Bosnia.
International Sports Director
On leaving the army in 2004 Guy joined The Scottish Rugby Union and became the Scotland National Rugby Team Manager. As the first professional Manager for the National Team, Guy led in the development of a world class environment within which the team could perform. He also formed an operational department, bringing together all operational support and allowing best practice to be shared. In 2010 Guy became the Director of Operations for The British and Irish Lions Rugby Team and was accountable for everything off the field of play. His collaborative leadership enabled him to get the very best out of stakeholders, all working to the one goal.
Businessman & University Lecturer
Following the success of the tour in 2013, Guy founded his company EIGER Performance which enables clients to achieve high performance through a range of Leadership and High Performance Consulting services tailored to individual needs. The business also provides sports event management services and inspirational Key Note Speaking. Guy is a graduate of The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and The Open University. He is an Associate of Napier University and a visiting lecturer on leadership and High Performance Teams at Manchester Metropolitan University, Loughborough University, St Andrews University and The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Guy offers many talks around the topic of leadership. The common theme to all of them is that they are inspirational and based on his real life experiences leading teams in the military and in sport at the highest level. Guy has an innate ability to tailor his talks to the needs of the clients and what key messages they wish to get across. The Testimonials speak for themselves.
Guy has had the privilege of leading High Performing Teams for over 30 years, often in challenging environments. Like his leadership talks, there are many anecdotes as he takes you through his experiences. An outline of a High Performance talk is as follows:
# What is a High Performance Team (HPT)?
# What are the keys to success of a HPT?
# The dangers to a HPT?
This presentation combines Guy's experiences in both leadership and the development of High Performing Teams. Under the heading of 'Leading a Team through a Minefield of Obstructions and Adversity' Guy cleverly steers attendees though a journey of what he considers the top 5 qualities of a leader are and how that leader can go on to build a High Performance Team.
Guy has been on the management team for two British and Irish Lions Tours; South Africa in 2009 and Australia in 2013. Under this subject, Guy has two exceptional talks. Firstly he can take attendees through the journey of planning and delivering one of the worlds top sporting events. Secondly he brings to life how the 4 teams of Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales came together in 2013 to become world class and beat Australia in their own back yard.
